Join Don Napier, Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and LaDonna Chirpas, Director of Nurse Practitioner Services at Iris Telehealth as they explore the common mental health diagnoses seen in the jail space. We’ll discuss diagnoses’ ranging from mild to severe and how they intersect with substance use concerns in this population. From there we’ll explore some of the treatment modalities that can be leveraged within the jail system, focusing on the benefits of a well-managed medication treatment alongside frequent therapeutic support.

Hugh Gesher, JTS Supervisor from Community Integrated Health Services, will be on hand to answer any questions about services available through the Great Rivers BH ASO Jail Transition program.

Carol has held a variety of leadership and clinical positions within the behavioral health field. She has dedicated her career to providing Mental Health Care to underserved populations. In February of 2020 she retired from the Connecticut Department of Corrections, having worked in this area for  years,  after her “retirement” she began working for Iris Telehealth as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Carol is a Certified Correctional Health Care Professional, with specialty certification in Mental Health as well as Medication Assisted Treatment. She works as a consultant for the National Commission on Correctional Health Care and is a surveyor for them. She travels throughout the country to various Correctional Facilities to assist facilities in accreditation. Carol has worked as well as an Nurse Practitioner at UConn-CMHC (Correctional Managed Health Care). Prior to this position, Carol was a nurse practitioner at the UConn Health Center/Emergency Department. In this role Carol was responsible for directing the psychiatric section of the Emergency Department where she also conducted crisis psychiatric evaluations. She also managed the Partial Hospital Program and the Intensive Outpatient Programs. Prior to UConn, Carol was employed by DMHAS at the CRMHC as a Clinical Manager 2 and was responsible for all nursing functions in the facility. She also worked as Nurse Practitioner at CRMHC prior to serving as the Director of Nursing. Before moving to CRMHC, Carol was the Director of Adult Mental Health Services at Midstate Medical Center where she was responsible for six outpatient programs. Carol received her BS in Nursing from Hartwick College, her MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University of Connecticut, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Massachusetts (Boston).
